February Fleet List Revision

We've made the decision to make revisions to our fleet lists monthly if needed. This will ensure our fleet lists are probably the most accurate around!

Our February revisions are taking place as we speak (well... type).

Our fleet lists can be downloaded free of charge from the fleet lists page, they open as pdf, but if you need them in an alternative electronic format, email general.norwichbuspage@gmail.com and we'll do our best to sort it out!

Wheres this bus going?

Rackheath based Anglian buses are either having some service number changes coming up in April or their having some big problems with their destination screens, as lots of Anglian buses running from the Rackheath depot have been noted on numerous occasions with the wrong service number.

The first known instance was in Norwich two weeks ago when Kieran pictured Plaxton Beaver T200CBC displaying the unknown destination ‘497 Harleston’ .

Then the same bus was noted in Yarmouth by Zak with the desti ’59 Heathersett’

Then today the YN07EZB turned up to run a 731 to Great Yarmouth with the destination 006 Gt.Yarmouth via Scatby. The wright destination but wrong number. If I remember rightly the 006 used to run through Great Yarmouth to Brundall, Blofield & Lingwood a few years ago.

If you have seen any other wrong destinations related to this or any information on why this occurring so much then please get in just at general.norwichbuspage@gmail.com

Swift Lark to fly the Nest...

I have been in touch with The General Manager of Swift Taxis, Kevin Boyne to find out what the situation with their Dart FJ53VDL is, which has been occupying the same space at the back of Swifts Southtown Road depot for months now with out turning a wheel.

He told me that it is to be sold for scrap or repairs, which is a huge shame but there we go.

The bus has previously two owners so far, them being Amza and Swift.

Swift acquired FJ53VDL when they acquired Amza / Travel Royall's contracts and buses in 2009.

While at Swift it generally done the same duites as it did with Amza, them being mainly the 29 Service to Wroxham, the 206 to Great Yarmouth, Bus 10, Bus TR1-TR4 & the TR14 Service.

Also it carried the name 'Swift Lark' and Fleet Number 137.

I can remember Amza having to pay alot of money on parts to repair this bus in 2007, but I can remember enjoying alot of journeys on this bus.

This comes not long after long time Great Yarmouth Resident G470LVG was sold as scrap or repairs to a local bus enthuistast for preserve.

Fingers crossed a enthuistast comes to save this bus, as this had its fair share of time at Great Yarmouth.

Norse forms new joint venture with Suffolk County Council

Norse Commercial Services has formed a new Joint Venture to take over the management of the fleet of school coaches and minibuses currently run by Suffolk County Council.

After nearly two years of discussions and joint working with Suffolk County Council, looking at partnership options for the provision of the county’s in-house schools’ passenger services, a new joint venture company, Suffolk Norse Ltd, has been formed to deliver Travel and Swimming Services.

The 10-year, £3million a year deal will see 130 staff and 70 vehicles transfer to Suffolk Norse, and will start on 1st February 2013.
Trevor Whiting, currently Service Manager with Suffolk County Council’s Passenger Fleet Department, will become Managing Director of the new company.

Norse’s Commercial Director Paul Bonham commented, “This is an ideal fit with our existing coach and minibus operations in Norfolk, and will represent good value for money for Suffolk tax payers. Norse will bring a more commercial approach to operating the fleet, which will hopefully enable efficiencies to be made whilst increased turnover will be achieved through new contracts.”

Councillor McGregor, Suffolk County Council's cabinet member for roads and transport said;

"I very much welcome this collaboration and am confident it will be a real success. This really is a fantastic example of two counties working closely together to meet the challenges of the current financial climate and to save tax payers money in an innovative and effective manner."
Tony Williams, Norse Board Member and Norfolk County Councillor, added: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Suffolk County Council in this new joint venture.”

“Our joint venture companies in places from Barnsley to Devon, Leeds to London are already delivering good results for their communities and we are confident this latest initiative will be a benefit to all concerned.”

“This is yet another positive development for the Norse Group, particularly in these challenging economic times.”
Suffolk Norse will be owned 80% by Norse Commercial Services and 20% by Suffolk CC.
Norse Commercial Services has a number of partnership agreements with local councils including GYBS in Great Yarmouth, Waveney Norse and SCS with Suffolk Coastal DC locally, and Enfield, Devon, Wellingborough and Barnsley further afield.

G470 LVG - A special Report

Terry Wilkins sent us an email today regarding his purchase of former Caroline Seagul and Sift Taxis G470 LVG.

"I am extremely happy and exited to say that I have purchased the ex-Cobholm Hire Services (Caroline Seagull) and Swift Taxis 1988 Plaxton Paramount 3200 bodied 1988 Dennis Javelin G470 LVG. When I found out that she was to be withdrawn and sold for scrap otherwise, and no one else took up the offer to save her, I decided to put my heart where my money is and buy her off her previous owner, Swift Taxis, for her scrap price. She's been brought, stored and put/kept in service in the Great Yarmouth area for just over 22 and a half years, since brought new, and I'm also pleased to say that she, as a Preserved Coach, is to be stored, by me - as her new owner - still in the Great Yarmouth area - along with my other Preserved PCV/PSV Vehicle - ex-Great Yarmouth Corporation 1968 Marshall bodied 1967 Leyland Atlantean Single Decker 40 - GEX 740F. I brought G470 LVG back in November and she requires front brakes, rear air suspension and some chassis rust removal and welding to be sorted out first before she get an M.O.T. - which I'm hoping to get sorted out this summer and, to which, I am currently saving for. She will, after a few years Rallying with her ex-owner's livery, will, also, be getting a repaint back into the Caroline Seagull livery - as she wore back in the old days."

Terry is looking for pictures of the vehicle at any time, expecially with her time with Caroline Seagul. Please send them to contributions.norwichbuspage@gmail.com and we will pass them on. Copyright Respected.
Thanks to Terry for contacting Norwich Bus Page!

MANs at Southtown

I stood at my usual spot outside Swift Taxis Depot on Southtown Road at Great Yarmouth with the intention to picture some of Anglian's New MAN buses which they have recently taken delivery of.

After a week or so of trying to get a picture I finally took one of Anglian's MAN CitySmart Demonstrator WX12EKO on 581 service duties heading Beccles bound. This demonstrator I have noticed has been with Anglian for a little longer than the MAN EcoCity demonstrator WX61FXO which was only with Anglian for a few days, this one has been with Anglian for about two weeks so far confined to 581 & 580 duites.

Also I took what was about my sixth picture of new MAN EcoCity AU62DWN on 601 Service duties to Southwold. It and the other new EcoCitys previously mentioned on the blog are having their liveries worked on, so for the time being are in Anglians standard livery.

Freestones Bessemer Road **FIRST PICS**

After nearly two months of the new Freestones depot in Norwich being open, Norwich Bus Page are pleased to announce we have some pictures of the new depot!

Whilst in the area, I took a walk to see the depot. It's on the corner of Bessemer Road, on a patch of land with a derelict garage at the end. It is currently home to both the Megabus liveried vehicles.

Second Local Bus Petition!

I have started a petition to get more buses on the Anglian Bus 731 Service which serves Rackheath, Salhouse, South Walsham, Upton, Acle, Stokesby, Runham, Filby & Thrigby and links them to Great Yarmouth.  it currently runs once a day and everyday it is full with a lot of passengers standing. So I have started the petition to show Norfolk County Council the demand behind this service and how well it will be used if it ran with a higher frequency. I have suggested five outbound buses and six inbound buses Monday – Saturday. Some of the villages it serves have no frequent buses what so ever which I think is ridiculous, and I think the 731 would be a very useful link.

Here are what some people have said:

“It would be great for people without their own transport to be able to access amenities in Acle and Great Yarmouth.”

“As mentioned above; the buses aren't very frequent, so a service linking the villages would be awesome!”

“I think its stupid one bus a day and I know a lot of people who would use the bus to Yarmouth including myself!”

Your support for the service will help, so please sign the online petition. Every signature counts!

The online petition can be found Here

Thanks for your support!

Unscheduled visit to Norwich

I was planning on meeting up with someone in Hales today. I caught the 36 with my bus pass and then was about to buy something when I realised my wallet wasn't in my pocket; I had left it on the bus. I had no money and no bus pass and no credit on my phone so I was quite stuck! I decided to wait on St Stephens street for the same 36 to return. An hour and a half later the bus came back waiting to depart for Long Stratton. I asked the driver if anybody had handed one in but he said no, then told me to run upstairs and check where I found it hiding under the front seat in a corner! So lucky that nobody had picked it up and kept it. The unscheduled wait however gave me the perfect opportunity to have a look around to see what buses I could find.

The first spot of the day was Anglian's 608 (AU62DWL) sat parked waiting to go out on the 588. I recognised the driver as my old school bus driver from Goldline Travel three years ago! He didn't see me though. I saw the bus go past in Stoke Holy Cross on the way home on the 587 aswell.

Whilst at the bus station, a First X2 branded bus came into view and I only just managed to realise it was not one of the two new painted buses that I know about! Here is AU05MUP waiting to embark to Lowestoft, still with Norwich on the screen!

Talking of X2 services, I noticed this bus on the X2 Fast service in Norwich yesterday, the LED screen annoyingly disappearing for my photo as any other bus photographer can relate to.

So all in all, a good day with some new spots and a dose of sledging in the afternoon!...............Zak

X2 Petition to revert services to Hales

32654 - AU05MUW leaving Lowestoft on the X2
In the EDP today, a mother of three has spoken on behalf of bus passengers in Hales by starting a petition to reconsider the amount of bus services that go through Hales. She has also written to FirstBus explaining her concerns. The petition comes after the X2 timetable was reviewed and a new one was released on Sunday which includes the new "Fast" services that miss out villages, like Hales. More trouble on the Anglian buses!

Anglianbus 414 YN07EZB in Great Yarmouth in June 2011

Anglian buses YN07EZB & YN07LFU have transferred to the Rackheath depot now Anglian has more MAN EcoCitys at Beccles arriving, AU58AUV is expected to follow soon if it hasn’t already.

YN07EZB first day in service at Rackheath wasn’t very successful as this morning it broke down as it left the depot on 731 Service duties, after mechanics got the bus running it was running 30 minutes late much to the annoyance of the bus driver. The bus then had trouble in Upton after it picked up passengers it wouldn’t move again a full ten minutes later the bus decided it was ready to go again, it picked up passengers in Acle then made its way through stokesby when it decided to breakdown again. It was making all sorts of bleeping noises and the engine was getting louder and louder all by itself then it smelt like it was burning, after the driver had had a very heated argument on the phone with the Rackheath depot manager he finally agreed to send out a replacement bus from Norwich, plus a Fleet Support van. A very fast responding AnglianBus Fleet Support AO10FPE arrived in 10 mins after the phone call and the same mechanic got the bus running again. During this time brokendown in Stokesby the bus driver also had numerous arguments with truck drivers who were shouting at the bus driver to move, the driver called them think for not noticing he was broken down, it was very chaotic! Anyway to cut a very long story short YN07EZB made into Yarmouth a full hour late. Something that amused me was the Bu s Driver never phoned up his boss again to tell him not to bother with the replacement bus! Whether YN07EZB broke down again on A47 duties throughout the day I don’t know but I think it’s fair to say it’s likely it probably did as it was in quite a bad state in the Morning

Also, Alan Phipps reports that R82EMB broke down on the A47 Norwich bound yesterday after the engine was over heating, that too had the bleeping noise and red warning light on driver dashboard.

Peoplemovers Update

I have been assured by Peoplemovers that they WILL NOT be selling their vehicles or their business, they have started to think about moving the business in a 'new direction'. I am currently in contact with them and will try and find out more about what this new direction might be! .............Zak

Off to Peterborough - Photo Special!

On January 5th, Norwich City Football Club along with many supporters took the short ride out to Peterborough. By this point you may be wondering why i'm blogging about a football match on a bus blog, right? Well, i'm not, so all you football haters can read on!
As always, Sanders offered a wide array of vehicles to transport the hundreds of footie fans to the match. Jamie Armstrong has kindly let us use his pictures of the many vehicles off to the game.

First up is Sanders 904,  a Plaxton Panther bodied Volvo. This was the
vehicle providing transport to the disabled supporters.

A similarly bodied Volvo was this Plaxton Profile bodied Volvo B7R.

CT05 LCT (805) is fitted with a wheelchair lift.

More and more Plaxton bodied Volvos are entering the Sanders fleet, this is
a Paragon bodied B12M.

Also providing transport on the day was one of Eastons striking Bova Magiqs.
Unfortunately, we are unable to post all the photos taken by Jamie, instead check out is flickr site.
Another massive thanks has to go to Jamie Armstrong for supplying the photos!

Another AnglianBus fire

The second AnglianBus fire in a very short time! Matt Webb contacted me with a link to a story on the Eastern Daily Press website about a fire on an AnglianBus which was believed to be running back to the depot.
A spokesman for Suffolk Police said that it was thought it might have been an electrical or engine problem with the diesel bus. They also said that significant damage had been done to it.
The fire was so bad, the Highways Agency were called to assess damage to the road.

We currently don't know the specific vehicle, all we know is it was diesel powered, single decker bus.

Two more MAN EcoCity's entered service today....

610 - AU62 DWC
I was informed that AnglianBus sent two more MAN EcoCity's into service on the 588 today. I left college early in the hope of getting to Norwich to take some photos. I was very surprised to see 610 - AU62 DWC, one of the buses expected to be used on the 588, working the 146 in Lowestoft around lunch time.
I did not see the other gas bus that was supposed to be used on the 588, I only saw the usual Scanias, single deck and double deckers. The whereabouts and registration of 608 is still unknown.

I would also like to report that Anglian's R81EMB and R82EMB have not yet been withdrawn, I saw one working today in Gorleston.

Norwich based firm to sell up

Peoplemovers Coaches, who are based in Taverham, have decided they are to sell their business. On the 10th of January thieves broke into the depot on Fir Covert Road and stole a Mercedes Benz Sprinter (R30 PLE) which was converted last summer by Peoplemovers into a luxury minibus. The theives ripped all the seats out and left them on site and took the Sprinter away with them, full of tools taken from the workshop. Other businesses based at the Felthorpe industrial were also targeted. The total damage to the vehicle was an estimate £3.500.
Peoplemovers started in 1999 operating one minibus, and moved to a depot in the Airport Industrial Estate, the company then grew rapidly, however downsized and moved to a new base on Fir Covert Road. In 2012, Peoplemovers won many contracted and acquired five Bova Futura's, including one from Eastons, to run the services. They are probably most notable for running a service between Taverham High School Sixth Form and Hellesdon High School Sixth Form. Last year, a former Carters VanHool Alizee was acquired, and was due to be scrapped soon.
The Sprinter was found 36 hours later on the A47, and a download of its tachograph has revealed the time it was stolen.
Peoplemovers hope to sell the vehicles, and transfer the drivers and contracts with them.

Norfolk Green

Updated 21 January 0940hrs
We are running all routes as normally as we can, but delays are inevitable because of slow traffic and the state of roads. Buses are being particularly delayed on the X29 in and iut of Norwich and on the 37, 38 and 39 on the A10 heading into King's Lynn. Coasthopper is not serving Burnham Overy Staithe because of hazardous road conditions.
The following schools are shut: Alderman Peel, Downham High, KES, KL Academy, Marshland, Neale Wade, Reepham High. Springwood, Terrington High so their special school buses will not run this afternoon.
Our phone lines are open now for you to check on the progress of specific buses. You can also keep up to date with us by following @norfolkgreen on Twitter.
